Photography workshops

“Plan, shoot and polish”

Learn how to build your confidence and take better photos, by both understanding your camera more and thinking through what you want to achieve. Through patient and simple explanations, I can help you conquer the settings on your camera. For those interested in post processing, I can help you to refine your digital images in Lightroom to take your photography to the next level.

The three hour photography workshop is customised to your requirements, skill level and interests. There is nothing worse than not getting the chance to ask your questions when you are itching to learn! A maximum of four people per workshop will ensure each person receives individual guidance and support, however one-on-one tuition is also available.

Topics include:

  • Familiarising yourself with your camera and getting the best out of it

  • Understanding your gear and options available (prime or zoom lens, extenders, flash etc)

  • Planning your shots, composition, lighting

  • Field craft

  • Post processing in Lightroom (optional extra).

Spend time in the field, learning and practicing your craft, and receiving guidance as you go. For those interested in learning how to master Lightroom, you will then finish by processing an image to a high quality, ready to print or share online. You will leave the workshop with photos you’re proud of and go home with more confidence to get out shooting more.

Cost: $120 per person for a 3hr workshop in Patchewollock, VIC. Optional 1hr Lightroom tutorial $50 per person.

I also welcome enquiries about group discounts or full day workshops, alternative locations, special outings for spotlighting tours or specific target birds.

My speciality is bird photography, but I’m happy to cater for other interests such as night photography, landscapes and macro. All photos shown here are mine, you can also find more of my photography on our website Outside Four Walls.

- Michael Gooch.

I booked a photography workshop during my stay at Explore the Mallee earlier this year. I am an enthusiastic beginner and wanted to improve on my photography. Michael targeted the workshop perfectly at my skill level and during our session at the bird hide I was delighted how his practical advice immediately resulted in improved photos. Later-on we practised specific lighting scenarios and then Michael taught me some Lightroom processing tricks. He gave me some cheat sheets to take home, which have come in handy. I came away with improved and more confident photography skills and can only recommend the workshop. Last but certainly not least, it was also great fun!
